Ruby Throated Hummingbird female

Description

Ruby Throated Hummingbird

The females obviously do not exhibit very much of that namesake, as the males do.

These little jets fly extremely fast, and can stop instantly, hover , fly upside down, go any direction, and feed in tube shaped flowers and feeders. They often pluck small insects from the air or from spiderwebs, as well.

The average wing beats per minute is around 3,000 to 4800 .

This shot was taken at 1/5000 @ f11, just to get what I did get.

It takes lots of patience to get one just right.
